Go to SoMud "Options" menu, choose "Settings", in the settings dialog, select "General Settings". In the section of "Maximum number of splits for HTTP/FTP task", select "Automatic" if you want SoMud to manage it for you. Or you can select "Customized" and enter the number of splits for HTTP/FTP tasks. (If the web server hosting the files you are downloading doesn't throttle download bandwidth for connections, the larger number of splits will dramatically increase you download speed by 5-10 times.)
